FRIENDS OF THE RISING SUN LIBRARY MINUTES

            July 10, 2006

The meeting was called to order on Monday, July 10, 2006 at 8:00pm.  Those present were:  GW Jagger, Tony Mattern, Marilyn O’Connell, Vickie Snyder, Loraine Bergold, Fred Bergold, Ron Jagger, Jerry Newman, Donna Hayes, Karen Peterman and Barb Dickson.

The minutes of the April 10, 2006 meeting were approved as written.

The Treasurer’s Report showed a balance in all accounts as of June 30, 2006 of$16,545.65.  A clarification that the Blue Bird Houses income was $175 with $140 being entered to savings, not just the $35 indicated in checking account deposits.

Barb read a letter of resignation from the friends from Loraine Bergold who will be missed.

Marilyn thanked all the workers for an excellent and productive job at SunFest for the library.  Particularly helpful were the signs made be Jerry Newman, painted by Steve Hickey.  Jerry had brought along one of the signs and showed us its design complete with handles and hooks for closing and carrying.  Working with Jerry, Barb will provide some smaller pieces of metal which can be used to cover sections of the signs so they can be multi-use signs.  Marilyn said she thought the goods for the yard sale were indeed nicer and that not taking clothes seemed to be a sound idea.  Barb suggested that possibly the books could be sorted to help in selections and Donna said they were trying to at least keep children’s books separated.  Marilyn said the TV was taken to Ray of Hope and several tables to Goodwill and some things were left for the trash pickup.  All in all the day netted $1242.50 and was pronounced a success.

Jerry mentioned that he has 4 pieces of hardboard measuring 20x35” if anyone is interested and Marilyn suggested that Cathay put it on the website.

Karen Peterman joined us to discuss the quote that she passed out for the proposed ceiling mounted projector.  She said Elkton was getting 14 laptops and we were to be the recipient of their older ones after they are cleaned.  She said that they are having computer classes about every 2 weeks except in summer and that having to go the Elkton for their projector is becoming more difficult particularly if they are using it.  We discussed the quote, the hookup and several concerns about security, costs of the bulb etc.  Barb moved we buy the projector and cables and a replacement bulb for a cost not to exceed $2100.00.  Donna seconded and the motion passed.  Karen then left after thanking the Friends for the Book Hook contribution.

A suggestion that the library staff wear nametags was made.  Donna said she would ask the staff and Ron moved and Tony seconded the motion for the Friends to pay for them.  Motion was passed.

Marilyn needs to have envelopes reprinted and wants to do 1000 this time so they last longer.  About 290 are used for each membership mailing.  Everyone agreed.

We need to reprint the invitation to join the Friends of the library.  Barb will make about 50 copies while Fred checks his computer for the original file of the document.  If he finds it he will give it to Marilyn to have printed, if not he will let Barb know and she will redo it.

A committee to present a new nomination for president will be made up of Donna, Ron, Vickie and Tony and will have a recommendation by Mid-September for the October meeting.

Marilyn will write the membership letter for our new mailing.

Our next meeting will be October 16, 2006 at 8PM

There being no further business Barb motioned and GW seconded the motion to adjourn.

 Respectfully,

 Barb Dickson
