New Chesapeake City
Branch Breaks Ground
The Cecil County Public
Library is pleased to announce ground was broken for the new Chesapeake City
Branch Library on September 22, 2006. The library will be located in the
South Village Shopping Center. Library representatives joined developer
Dean Geracimos and residents in celebrating the groundbreaking.
The 5,700-square-foot
Chesapeake City Branch will feature 14 public access computers, a children’s
area, a 30-person meeting room, ample parking, seating for both study and
casual reading, and will maintain 22,000 items in the complete collection.
“After an exhaustive search
for space to accommodate our needs, we have found a rental location in the
new South Village Shopping Center. The residents of Chesapeake City will
have a beautiful new branch strategically located between the North and
South sides of town and will be accessible to students from the elementary
and high schools,” said Carol Starzmann, Branch Services Manager.
Construction on the library
has begun and will take approximately nine months to complete. Grimm +
Parker Architects have designed an interior layout for the branch. The
library will be located on Route 213 and will also be accessible from Basil
Ave. Additional information and architectural drawings of the building can
be found on the Cecil County Public Library’s website at
www.cecil.ebranch.info.
The Cecil County Public
Library operates six branches located throughout Cecil County, MD. The
library serves over 44,000 registered borrowers. The mission of the Cecil
County Public Library is to provide access to educational and cultural
resources for all and to promote individual and community success.
