Breaks Ground for New Perryville Branch
Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Perryville Branch of the Cecil County
Public Library will take place on Tuesday, July 11, at 10:00am. The
official groundbreaking will follow welcoming remarks and speeches from
local officials, including Commissioner Nelson Bolender. The public is
welcome.
The newest branch of the
Cecil County Public Library will serve the Perryville area. This exciting
new library will provide cultural, social, and educational opportunities for
residents of all ages.
The planning for the new
library branch began over five years ago. This groundbreaking ceremony
demonstrates the strong cooperation between the public library, town and
government officials, and the greater Perryville community.
The 15,100 square foot
Perryville Branch will feature 25 public access computers, a children’s
library, a technology training lab, a 75 person meeting room, a drive
through check-out window, self-check out stations, the capacity to hold
70,000 items in the complete collection and a café.
“The Perryville Branch
will be a state-of-the-art public library that will provide excellent
educational services and be an asset for economic development and
opportunity. Our County Commissioners support has been critical to this
project from beginning to end.” said Denise Davis, CCPL’s Director.
Construction on the new
library will begin soon and is expected to take approximately one year to
complete. Grimm and Parker Architects are the designers of the building.
Paul Risk Associates, Inc. hold the construction contract. The branch will
be located on Coudon Boulevard and will be visible from Rt. 40. Additional
information and architectural drawings of the building can be found on the
Cecil County Public Library’s website
www.cecil.ebranch.info.
The Cecil County Public
Library operates six branches located throughout Cecil County, MD. The
library serves over 44,000 registered borrowers. The mission of the Cecil
County Public Library is to provide access to educational and cultural
resources for all and promote individual and community success.
