Pam Leonard has been a
nurse since 1982. Besides being interested in caring for people she always
had a desire to start a business. She has designed and made gemstone
jewelry for some time, but when it came time to think about her own
business, she decided another route would be more profitable and
satisfying. She decided that she had always enjoyed long term care and
wanted to have her own assisted living home.
Recently, after many
long months of preparation, she opened Pam’s Assisted Living Home in North
East, MD. This is a 15-bed facility with seven double rooms and one
single. She invites the public to stop by and view the facility at any time
while she is accepting new residents. When she was asked what was the
hardest thing about developing a start-up business, she said quickly,
“Financing and the time consumed
by paperwork for licensing”
…were the hardest part of
starting a business.
Pam says she
appreciated the information and support that she found at the SBIC during
her startup phase.
To get to Pam’s
Assisted Living Home, turn left off of Route 40 at Red Toad Road, cross over
Wells Camp Road and you will see a yellow sided building on the left in a
quiet country setting---that’s Pam’s Assisted Living Home. |
