Cecil County Public Library Foundation

What is the Cecil County Public Library Foundation?

The Cecil County Public Library Foundation provides private funding for special projects and services at the Cecil County Public Library. Established in 1994, the CCPL Foundation is committed to helping our public library system bring opportunity and the joy of reading to every citizen in our community. The Foundation makes significant and strategic contributions to our public libraries throughout the county, that are beyond the scope of traditional operating budgets for the library. When Cecil County citizens value the library enough to invest their own private resources in its growth and development, they affirm that public funding for a strong public library system is a citizen priority.

Who runs the CCPL Foundation?

The CCPL Foundation is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, thus incurring no cost to the Foundation's assets. The Foundation Directors are appointed by the Library Board of Trustees of the Cecil County Public Library and are citizens committed to the future strength and prosperity of CCPL's programs and structures.

Who gives to the Foundation?

Private contributions are made by generous individuals, families, businesses and other foundations. Donations may be made anonymously, if desired.

Why give to the Foundation?

The Foundation funds projects and services that enhance the Cecil County Public Library. These are projects that the library could not otherwise afford through its annual operating budget and are beyond those normally funded in the public library budget. Foundation funds greatly augment the library's services by supporting special projects and services or by leveraging additional funds from grants and/or public entities.

Examples of Foundation supported projects include:

  • Special features or enhancements for existing or new library buildings

  • Matching funds for grants or public funding to support programs or building projects

  • Author programs for adults, teens and children

Is my contribution tax deductible?

The CCPL Foundation is a Section 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. The CCPL Foundation seeks contributions of stock, property and monetary donations, as well as bequests, legacies, devises or transfers, which are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Information under the Maryland Charitable Organizations law can be obtained from the Secretary of State at (410) 974-5534.

How can I donate to the CCPL Foundation?

Monetary Donations: the CCPL Foundation accepts cash, check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard). Funds are used to support special library initiatives.

Planned Giving: including the CCPL Foundation in your will enables you to leave a lasting, local legacy, and is an excellent way to make a high impact donation to the Foundation for the future. This type of giving includes a bequest in your will of a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, a bequest of investments such as stocks, securities, life insurance or real estate, including the CCPL Foundation in the residuary clause of your will, or encouraging an obituary donation to the CCPL Foundation.

Donor Recognition

Gifts to the CCPL Foundation are always deeply appreciated. Donations to the Foundation are acknowledged in writing. All donor names are listed on the Foundation section of our website. Donations of $500.00 to $999.99 earn a Supporter designation and remain on the plaque for one year. Donations of $1,000 or more are engraved and remain on the plaque indefinitely. Sponsorships of specific events or programs may also be mentioned in press releases and marketing materials. Donors may choose to remain anonymous in publicity or recognition materials. Foundation donors are also invited to special Cecil County Public Library events where they can meet other generous CCPL supporters and can often see the impact of donations on programs, facilities, and services.
