Teen Read Week

TRW banner

Every year, the Young Adult division of the American Library Association promotes Teen Read Week. TRW is an opportunity to get teens reading for the fun of it! This year’s theme is encouraging teens to “Seek the Unknown @ your library.” We will have a scavenger hunt at each branch this week and one lucky teen who completes the hunt will win an iPad Mini. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn about what the library has to offer teens and a chance to win great prizes. Call your local branch today. There’s still time to sign up!

Can’t make it to an event, but looking for a way to celebrate Teen Read Week? You can vote for the top teen books from last year! Book Hook, our teen book discussion group, was one of only sixteen in the nation chosen to serve as nominators for YALSA’s Teens’ Top Ten award. Teens’ Top Ten is the only book award completely chosen by teen readers. Now that the nominees have been chosen, all teens in the nation can vote on the top ten. We are excited to encourage teens in our area to help narrow down the twenty-eight nominated titles to the top ten of 2013! Take a look at the following nominees list. If you are between the ages of 12 and 18, you still have time to vote by clicking here. Winners will be announced on Oct. 22nd.

Teen Read Week

Check out Books with Beat at your library! Stop by a Cecil County Public Library branch near you during Teen Read Week (October 17-23) to check out some great programs on Books with Beat. Pick up books about music, poetry, and more or try an audio book. Read this week just for the fun of it!

We are celebrating Teen Read Week at Cecil County Public Library. Elkton Central Branch is having a TRW Books with Beat event on how books and music make a great combination on Thursday, October 21st at 3:30PM. You can listen to music from the latest bands and check out books with a music theme. You can even create your own playlists for your favorite YA novels!

Not sure what to read this week? A great way to get personalized book recommendation is by filling out a Book Mate form at your local branch or click here to fill one out online! Parents can get involved in Teen Read Week too! You can visit your local branch, set aside time for the family to read, share your favorite books with your teens, or learn about new books and authors.

Have you read a good teen book lately?  What are you doing to celebrate Teen Read Week?
