Adults

The Cecil County Public Library offers a wide variety of FREE programs, events and classes for adults. These programs seek to give the community free access to quality education and cultural resources, as well as entertainment.

 

  • Book Discussions - Like to read and talk about books with others? Fiction, non-fiction or mystery, we have the book discussion for you.
  • Music , Film and Entertainment - Come enjoy free concerts, music programs, and viewings of classic, independent and foreign films.
  • Computer Classes - Want to learn more about computers? Take one of our free classes, available for computer novices as well as those who would like to learn about Microsoft Office programs.
  • Finances and Employment - Learn more about money management, jobs, resumes and more.
  • Small Business - Get help starting or growing your small business with one of our free programs.
  • Cultural - Join us for fascinating presentations and discussions of local history, art and more.
  • Craft and Hobbies - Learn and have fun at the library with our free programs about crafts, gardening, photography and more.
  • Family Programs - Bring the whole family for films, craft programs or special play times.

 

Teens

  • Book Hook - Come hang out at the library and talk about great books with friends. Yummy snacks included!
  • Manga and Anime - Manga and anime enthusiasts unite! Come and check out a fun anime film and discuss the latest manga craze with fellow fans.
  • Gaming - Whether you're new to gaming or a Guitar Hero, show your stuff and play Nintendo Wii.
  • Just For Teens - Stay tuned for upcoming Band Nights, Teen Movie Matinees and craft programs targeted specifically for teens.
  • Teen Advisory Council - We want your ideas about books, gaming, music, magazines and more.

 

Children

  • BabyTime is a gentle introduction to language and music for pre-walking babies and caregivers.
  • ToddlerTime is an enthusiastic combination of rhymes, music, movement, stories, and play for walkers up to three.
  • StoryTime for 3-5 year olds is an interactive blend of books, rhymes, stories, and games. Children attend independently; caregivers join them for a craft.
  • FamilyTime is a special parent-child workshop for families with children ages birth to three; siblings under age six may also attend. The program concludes with a circle time and a craft.
  • Drop-In StoryTime welcomes all to an evening story and craft program best suited for children ages four and up.
  • After-School Specials celebrate early school dismissal every Wednesday afternoon.
  • School-Age StoryTime features great picture books, a snack and a craft for elementary school students.
  • Yakkin' n' Snackin' is a book discussion with a focus on fun for 4th and 5th graders. Free books and snacks are provided.
  • Science in the Library links literature with science. Past topics include forensics and dinosaurs.
  • Read and See spotlights picture books made into movies. Children aged five and up listen to stories, snack, and watch a short video on the big screen.
  • Passport to the World takes kids in grades 1-3 on imaginary trips to far off, exotic places through books, music, games, video and food.
  • Special cultural, educational and "just for fun" events are held throughout the year to recognize holidays, seasons and national celebrations or to feature guest presenters.
