The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks

by E. Lockhart.

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks is a witty, sometimes hilarious, story of what life is like for an intelligent girl in an elite boarding school. Frankie goes from awkward and geeky her freshman year to gorgeous with a senior boyfriend, Matthew Livingston, her sophomore year. Attractive, smart, and sassy, it seems Frankie has everything going for her. But when her relationship with Matthew becomes strained due to his involvement in an all-male secret society and because the double standard is always lurking beneath the surface, Frankie decides to take matters into her own hands and trick the society into pulling pranks she has devised to make a statement about the biased nature of the school's structure. Will she go too far in her quest to prove herself, and girls in general, worthy of membership in the Loyal Order of the Bassett Hounds?

I don't usually read stuff like this, but it made an NPR summer reading list this past year, and I decided to give it a try. It was great! Frankie is a terrific main character, and the writing was fantastic.
