Death Drop
Rabid fans or even occasional fans of figure skating and well-woven mysteries will enjoy Alina Adam's Death Drop. Rebecca "Bex" Levy is a 24/7 network television figure skater researcher. In this fourth in the series, Bex finds herself at the Ladies Practice Group when an abandoned baby is found in the Seniors Dance Compulsory arena. The baby has to belong to someone involved with the figure skaters...but who? Some hours later, Allison Adler, a promising ice skating dancer is found hanging, an apparent suicide. She is obviously the mother but who is the father? Was it the ex-boyfriend or the older coach? Then Bex learns that Allison's death was not a suicide. The suspect list begins to grow, including lecherous old coaches, pushy parents, jealous skaters, and old boyfriends. Alina Adams paints a vivid picture of the figure skating world with all its back biting, strange players, and the psychological and physical costs one pays for figure skating glory. She is able to combine her own knowledge as a figure skating researcher for NBC, ABC and ESPN with a superb mystery to score a perfect 10! If you like this mystery, you will enjoy her other mysteries, Murder on Ice, On Thin Ice, and Axel of Evil. Other books written in a similar vein are Iced by Jenny Siler and My Sister, My Love: The Intimate Story of Skylar Rampike by Joyce Carol Oates.
