The Art of Racing in the Rain

Garth Stein.

I could not put this book down and yes, I cried at the end. Enzo, the canine narrator of Garth Stein's entrancing novel, has the soul of a human being and the book provides a recipe for how to live life. On the eve of his death, Enzo is remembering the past, but also anticipating the future when he will be reincarnated as a human. Enzo believes this because he saw it on a television documentary. Enzo spends much of his day watching documentaries, the Weather Channel and Denny's old racing films. Denny is his master and a race car driver trying to make it big. Enzo is his biggest fan. However, this is not a book about racing; it's about how to live your life with grace and perseverance. Denny and Enzo share a life of great sorrow, but also of deep love, courage and grace. Wonderfully written.

Absolutely heart warming. Had to keep sharing passages with friends on the beach.

Listen to the audio version--CD Book! What do you think of Enzo's voice?

What a beautiful book. If you have ever lived with a pet who was there for you during the good and the bad, you will love this story. You will forever after wonder what your pets are thinking as you make the decisions that change their lives.

My book discussion group read this book together and really enjoyed it. It's simple and philosophical and heartwarming. The dog-lovers of our group especially loved it.
