What Is Left the Daughter
Set on the coast of Canada during WWII, the tale of Wyatt Hillyer is told by means of a letter he writes to his daughter to explain why she wasn't raised by him. He tells how his parents committed suicide and he was sent to live with relatives, who trained to make sleds and toboggans. He fell in love with his adopted cousin Tilda, who in turn fell in love with a German student. This story of a love triangle set in a time of war is told with sensitivity - you can't help but care about the characters. A compelling read.
