The Broken Window
Lincoln Rhyme is a quadriplegic who can only lift a single finger, but is one of the best forensic criminalists. Lincoln Rhyme and his partner Amelia Sachs star in this mystery series by Jeffrey Deaver starting with the book The Bone Collector. Together, they solve some of the most difficult and confounding mysteries involving serial killers, murderers, gangsters and even a magician. The Broken Window takes on new dimensions when Rhyme is embroiled in a mystery that hits close to home and involves a serial killer who uses consumer databases as his method of operation. This thriller was particularly creepy considering our fear of contemporary identity thieves. The serial killer seems to know everything about his victims, including Rhyme and his team, and can set up enough forensic evidence to accuse any unsuspecting party. There appears to be no way to track this killer, who is dubbed ‘522' in relation to his consumer ID reference. ‘522' backs Rhyme into a corner and it is all Rhyme can do to stay enough ahead and keep himself from getting killed. Whether this is the first Lincoln Rhyme mystery you have read or just another one in the series, you'll definitely enjoy this fast-paced thriller full of plot twists and turns.
