Melody is a fifth grader with typical fifth grader thoughts. Unfortunately, she has no way to express them. Melody was born with cerebral palsy - she spends her days in a wheelchair, unable to walk, talk, or even feed herself. She is brilliant, but due to her condition, she is placed in the special education room at school. Only after she receives a computerized talking device does everyone realize just how much she has to say. But are they ready to listen?
When I was reading this book, I realized just how easy it is to make assumptions about someone. After reading "Out of My Mind", you'll realize that people are much more than what they seem on the outside.
