The God of Small Things

Arundhati Roy.

The God of Small Things is a richly written novel set in 1969 India. Through the eyes of two-egg twins, Rahel and Esthappen, we see how social unrest can affect even the smallest of people. Built around a family that is falling apart at the seams and an "untouchable" man who loves the two-egg twins by day and their mother by night, Arundhati Roy weaves a story about young innocence shattered, the struggle to do good in a world that is against you and how to grow up with hope in the midst of tragedy. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Barbara Kingsolver, Gloria Naylor, or Toni Morrison.

One of my all-time favorites! I was so impressed with the writing style and language, I know I suggested it to everyone I talked to for quite a while.
