Ninth Ward

Ninth Ward is an amazing story about Lanesha, 12 years old, and Mama Ya Ya, her loving, elderly caretaker. They live in the poor Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Lanesha can see spirits, although she doesn't talk about it. Mama Ya Ya is able to predict the future and is well respected. When Hurricane Katrina gathers strength, they are unable to leave because they have no car and no money. They experience the deadly storm with friends and neighbors. The terrible destruction and chaos are met with unexpected courage.
