The Closers: A Novel

This is the first novel by Michael Connelly that I have read and I loved it. The Closers is the 11th book in a series featuring Harry Bosch who comes out of retirement to begin work in the Open-Unsolved unit of the LAPD. Following a DNA match on a gun retrieved at the scene of a 17-year-old case, Bosch plunges into the case. A teenager Rebecca Verloren disappeared from her home and was found dead, an apparent suicide. When the evidence didn't add up, investigators starting treating it as a homicide but never solved it. With the new light shed on this case, Bosch teams up with his old partner Kizmin Rider and re-opens old wounds along the way. With new suspects and a deeper mystery lying within the LAPD, the meticulous and disciplined Bosch has his work cut out for him.

I like that I didn't need to have read the previous novels and immediately connected with Bosch. With many mysteries, I'm often put off by the unrealistic circumstances detectives find themselves in and the procedures taken. This book felt very plausible, simple in the execution and written in a concise way from beginning to end. I listened to the audio book and really enjoyed the narrator; the book sped by with its exciting plot. Now that I discovered this book, I may just go back to the beginning of the series.
