Journeying through outer space is the furthest thing on Kate Gordon's mind. She is content with picnicking with her Astrophysicist Grandfather and playing with her dog Cumberland. While staying at her Grandfather's house, Kate discovers he is experimenting with a powerful substance called Pure Condensed Light or PCL, which is produced in stars. This substance enables a person to effortlessly travel through space.

After Grandfather discovers that the Sun is losing PCL at a rate that will destroy it in a manner of weeks, he and Kate embark on an exhilarating journey to save the Sun from the powers of the darkness in the universe.
