Light on Snow: A Novel
In a snowed covered woods, a newborn is discovered wrapped in a bloody sleeping bag. The baby is found by a father and daughter who have "escaped" New York City and moved to a small obscure New Hampshire town to get away - they are not prepared for the attention and complications resulting from the heroism of saving a baby from freezing to death.
The mystery of an abandoned baby girl slowly unravels as told from the perspective of the daughter, Nikki. Nikki is a typical 12-year old on the verge of becoming a young woman, smart, curious and trying her hardest to save her father and herself from the deep sadness of their own tragedy.
Anita Shreve is one of my favorite authors and writes stories about family relationships, losses, forgiveness and healing. Shreve's other books worth reading include "The Weight of Water," "The Pilot's Wife," "Eden Close," and "Sea Glass."
