I've Got Your Number
Ready for a light-hearted, fast-paced, laugh-out-loud read? Then I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella fits the bill.
In this story by the author of the popular Shopaholic series, the main character, Poppy, a loveable, zany, but well-meaning physical therapist loses her engagement ring and has her cell phone stolen all in one afternoon. This isn't just a minor hiccup. Poppy's cell phone is her lifeline--she's on it constantly, texting and calling, arranging her meetings and upcoming wedding--that phone is her life.
When she finds a discarded cell phone in a trash can, it seems too good to be true, so she decides to use it temporarily to make a few essential calls. Of course, the temporary becomes long term as her life becomes entangled with the high-powered executive whose personal assistant owned the discarded phone.
Poppy can't resist just reading some of his fascinating emails, and decides the executive, Sam, needs to soften up his approach to his employees. She composes a few touchy-feely emails that she feels would deliver ideal results for him. And she thought it would be nice to add a few smiley faces at the end, maybe some XOX's, too. The only problem is that Sam had only agreed to let her use the phone for a few days, and touchy-feely is definitely NOT his style. As Poppy's wedding day looms closer, her own doubts about her fiancé grow stronger, and Sam's business goes into a tailspin. How the author resolves it hurtles you into a clever and hilarious roller coaster ride of plot twists and unexpected turns.
Reading Sophie Kinsella is like watching an expanded "I Love Lucy" episode. Her heroines have nothing but good intentions, yet their zany ideas keep getting them into deeper and more hilarious trouble. This author is underestimated for her talents; she makes it all look so easy: her writing is witty, sharp and funny, crackling with energy while sending a message to all of us that life might be more fun if we stop taking ourselves so seriously.
If you haven't read this author yet, put down that literary sleeper for one night and treat yourself to the decadent delights of a truly entertaining read that will definitely have you laughing out loud--or should I say "LOL."
