Well known for their wildly popular Eyewitness series, DK Publishing can be counted on to pack lots of color, fresh ideas, and good solid information into their highly appealing non-fiction books for children.

This vivid gem is subtitled, "Grow plants for food and fun-packed projects," and it is stimulating and inspiring enough to be called a "what-for" as well as a "how-to" book.  Some basic botany precedes detailed instructions for projects that have kids growing plants, then creating fun art projects or deliciously simple recipes from the things they've grown.  Clear color photos accompany all the instructions, and cute little veggie-headed characters share helpful hints and interesting scientific tidbits.

"No garden?  No problem!  Everything in this book can be grown in a box or a pot or even a sack."  So there will be no excuse when the kids beg, "Can we do it, please?"
