Gone to Ground
A few weeks ago I had a patron recommend a book called Gone to Ground by Brandilyn Collins. She advertised the book as "seatbelt suspense" and said she could not put it down. Gone to Ground is a typical who-done-it book, with one minor tweak--everyone seems to have done it and reminded me of the board game Clue. This book kept me guessing till the very end and I could not wait to get to the end to figure out who the killer was.
Gone to Ground takes place in small-town Amaryllis, Mississippi where five murders have taken place in three years. A serial killer lives amongst them and there are no suspects, until murder number six takes place. All six murders are done in exactly the same way with a clean stab to the neck and the bodies are all found in closets. The "Closet Killer" usually goes after older women who live on their own, until Erika who was young, vibrant and had many secrets of her own was found among the victims.
Three women in Amaryllis are sure they know who the killer is. Cherrie Mae is certain the killer is the mayor himself; while Deena suspects her brother and a very pregnant Tully is convinced her husband has committed the crimes. In a twist of fate, these three unlikely allies team together to find out who the "Closet Killer" is.
