Mission Bell
I am always searching - searching for that great song, new singer, the best album ever. I have been doing this for years, and have even had my brother and brother-in-law send me new discoveries, obscure albums, unique performers, as they search used music stores -- what they call going CD-ing. But this one I found by myself (in the library!) Amos Lee's newest album "Mission Bell" was so perfect in its mix of folk, soul, jazz and gospel sound that I couldn't stop playing it over and over. This album features a singer/songwriter from Philadelphia with an acoustic guitar and the most personal, honest and truly inspiring music I have heard in a long time. I was so impressed that I went online and ordered four other CDs by Amos Lee (and I am NOT an online shopper). The first song, "Camino" is simply wonderful in its lyrics and Lee's flawless performance. The song is repeated at the end of the CD in a duet with Willie Nelson and is also fantastic. Also among my favorites are "Clear Blue Eyes," featuring Lucinda Williams, and "Windows are Rolled Down." In fact, this is the rare album in which all the tracks are simply perfect. In my constant search for greatness in music, this was definitely a rare find. I would even have to say "AWESOME".
