I have a bad habit of falling asleep during movies. I'm usually okay for about forty-five minutes, and then...zzzzzzzz. Not only did I manage to stay awake through "Trouble with the Curve," I even watched it twice and have recommended it to everyone.
Clint Eastwood directs and stars as Gus, an aging baseball scout who works for the Atlanta Braves, but he starts having vision problems. Since it's hard to actually scout players without proper vision, his estranged daughter Mickie (played by Amy Adams) who is a lawyer on the partnership track, decides to join him on the road for his latest scouting mission. The fine cast also includes John Goodman as Gus' best friend and Justin Timberlake as a young baseball scout who helps to heal the breach between father and daughter. This delightful movie is less about baseball and more about the father/daughter relationship, aging and life choices.
I have just realized how many Clint Eastwood movies I have enjoyed; particularly "Absolute Power" (partially filmed in Cecil County), "The Bridges of Madison County," and "Space Cowboys." Mr. Eastwood, please continue making movies. I promise to stay awake!
