Minutes of October 15, 2007 Board Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Barbara Dickson at 8:05 p.m.

Those in attendance were Barbara Dickson, Marilyn O’Connell, Fred Bergold, Mitzi Fields, Donna Hayes, and Ron Jaggers.  The minutes of the July 9, 2007 meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was presented.  There is a balance in checking of $411.36 and a balance in savings of $9,809.74.  The CD is now worth $11,322.85 and the brokerage account is at $20,164.14

Barbara reported that we received a nice letter from Jerry Newman who is now settled in Indiana.

Barbara reported that Jessa Gillis has posted the Annual Letter on the Rising Sun Friends website.

The Friends made $1,611.40 from the August book and video sale.  Barbara thanked everyone for their hard work.  The rest of the videos were donated to Perry Point for use by the veterans.

Marilyn reported that response to the membership letter has been very good.

Donna reported that the “Master Gardeners of Cecil County” placed the flower pots in front of the library and are maintaining the flowers which look very good.

Mitzi reported that the children and the librarians are really pleased with the chairs, stuffed animals, puzzles, etc.

Ron Jaggers proposed that the Friends purchase a new globe for the libarary since the current one is so out-of-date.  He offered to do the research to find a new, larger one.  Marilyn moved and Fred seconded that the Friends authorize up to $700 for a new globe.  This was approved.

Ron moved and Marilyn seconded a proposal to authorize up to $200 to upgrade the fish tank.  This was approved.  Ron, who maintains the fish tank, will take care of the upgrade.  The fish are one of the children’s favorite things in the library.

Barbara moved and Ron seconded raising the discretionary fund for the use of the librarians to $100.  This was approved.

By and e-mail poll the board approved donating $150 for the volunteer luncheon to be held October 26, 2007.

All meetings are at 8:00 pm.

The proposed slate of officers was approved.  The officers for 2008 are:
