“Quality is our Trademark”
Glen Burnham
and his wife Bonnie, with help from their 7-year old
assistant, Kelley, opened their Premier Flooring store in
Elkton’s new Southfield Park Center near Redner’s Market in September,
2006. Glen has over 30 years of experience in the flooring business, but
wanted to have his own flooring store. With a store, he knew it would be
easier for him to display his flooring samples and skill---and have a place
to sit and plan with his clients.
Glenn is a
perfectionist who can lay just about any kind of floor you might need:
wood, ceramic, vinyl, laminate, or carpeting. You can find the top name
brands on display. He specializes in wood or ceramic inlays and accents in
floors. If you want your family name inlaid in your home entryway, Glenn
can do it! If you visit the store, the quality of his work is obvious when
you walk around and look at all the material and patterns created on the
store’s floor.
Bonnie was one of the
first clients to visit the library’s Small Business Information Center.
She came seeking business financing information to start their business in
2004. She found out that she and Glenn would need to prepare a business
plan to go to the bank. Glen worked diligently with the SBIC, the
SBDC and SCORE to develop a realistic business plan. He
encountered some unexpected hurdles along the way to securing financing and
finding a location, but he persisted until his dream of a flooring store
became a reality.
With all of the
preparations and obstacles, the development of his business took about two
years. His business plan was a record of the preparation and financial
planning that went into creating their business. Now, it is a measure of
their accomplishments. According to Glen, he is likely to meet the
projections he forecast for the year in the plan. That just seems to prove
that planning and persistence are essential qualities to realizing
business success.
