Let’s celebrate a community achievement!  We are all in the midst of challenging times, but here in Cecil County, we have something to celebrate.  We are now approaching the end of the fiscal year and we can report that by late June, for the first time ever, Cecil County will have checked out over 1,000,000 items from the Cecil County Public Library in Fiscal Year 2009!  Wow!  That is over 10 items checked out – books, audio books, downloadable books, large print books, paperbacks, DVDs, CDs, periodicals, etc. – for every single citizen of Cecil County.

So let’s put aside our worries and debates for a few days.  Let’s stand up, Cecil County – young and old, born here or recently relocated, and everything in between – and celebrate at every library branch in the entire county.  Cecil County is a community of readers! Click here to check out our gallery of READ posters, featuring our staff and community members and leaders.

During the week of June 22-26, we will have Open House celebrations and snacks in every library — plus wonderful things to read and check out.  Everyone who comes in will get a great sticker that says, “I helped read a million in Cecil County!”  All of Cecil County deserves a thumbs up and a cupcake or two — and another good book!   “Check out” your local library and join us for this commemorative event.
