Cook the Books Contest

October 11th, 2012

cook the books bannerSome things are just meant to be together… chocolate and peanut butter.  Football and tailgating.  Ying and Yang.

To this list of perfect pairings, I would also add the following: books and food!

One of my favorite pastimes on a cool fall night is to curl up with a good book and a bowl of something delicious.  Now, I’m not a great cook, but I make a mean macaroni and cheese casserole.  And I know I’m not the only one who loves to read and eat…  so at Cecil County Public Library, we’ve created the perfect chance for those of you who love books and cooking to combine those two loves: our Cook the Books contest!   October is National Book Month and to celebrate, CCPL is asking our patrons to use their imaginations and create an edible version of their favorite book, character from a book or pun on a book title.  The best part is we all get to eat the creations!

Everyone is invited to participate, and you can enter individually, as a family or with a group of friends.  Get as elaborate or simple as you like, and your entry just might win a Visa gift card, baking accessories, or other great prizes. To read more about Cook the Books and to enter, click this link or stop by any CCPL branch for more info.

And while you’re thinking about what to enter, tell us — what do you like to nibble while you’re reading?

Visit Us at the Fair and Win Big!

July 18th, 2012

Cecil County FairAre you craving funnel cakes, spinning rides, and cool prizes? It’s that time of year – get ready to journey to the Cecil County Fair, July 20-28 at the fairgrounds. After you’ve cruised the ag barns and viewed the prize-winning 4H entries (and maybe sampled a few deep-fried Oreos), be sure to stop by the Cecil County Public Library booth. We give away free books for all ages, plus we offer fun contests and a craft for the kids. This year’s booth highlights the Smithsonian’s exhibit “Journey Stories” and the many programs that will be offered at Cecil County Public Library through October.

July 23 is Children’s Day at the Fair.  At 11 am, bring the kids and enjoy a lively storytime performance on the main stage with our fun and talented staff.

We’re also running a special contest at the Fair this year – you can win restaurant gift certificates to Fair Hill Inn, Daddy-Os, or even local wines from Dove Valley Winery.  To enter, visit our booth at the fair, pick up a Journey Stories postcard and return it to your favorite branch library before August 15th.

What’s your favorite part of the fair?
