Cecil County Public Library is spearheading a new book discussion aimed at business professionals in the county. Starting in September, the Elkton Central Library will host a morning monthly Entrepreneur’s Book Discussion on the third Thursday of the month. Small Business Librarians Laura Metzler and Laura Hannan will facilitate, choosing book titles aimed to educate and spur creative discussions, as well as encourage networking of small business owners within the county.
September’s pick is “The Originals” by Adam Grant, and the discussion is on September 20th at 9:30 AM. If you can’t make the first discussion, plan to join us on October 18th at 9:30 AM for a discussion of “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek. You can download Sinek’s audiobook from our Hoopla app and get a head start for the October meeting.
If you can’t make the book discussions, CCPL has numerous business resources to explore. Learn new skills with Lynda video tutorials and Gale Online Courses. Lynda.com features engaging video tutorials on a variety of skills; there are even learning paths for “Becoming a Leader” and “Fostering Collaboration.” Gale Online Courses are 6-week courses that are led by real professors. Courses include Accounting Fundamentals, Effective Business Writing, and Computer Skills for the Workplace—but there are hundreds of options! Both Lynda.com and Gale Online Courses provide certificates of completion.
