This is the story of a real-life legend and Tennessee hermit, Felix Bush (Robert Duvall), who plans a funeral party before his death with the help of the local mortician, Frank (Bill Murray). Felix aims to set things straight or “get low” with his living funeral. He invites everyone who has heard a story about him to come to the funeral and tell the story, but really he wants to tell his dark secret before he dies. The entire town turns out for the event – mostly to satisfy curiosity, but also because a lottery is organized, with Bush's property as the prize.
This is a great movie with equal parts mystery, drama, and comedy. Duvall plays the part of a tortured soul beautifully, and Murray’s representation of a greedy mortician with a heart is the perfect complement.
