When the Harry Potter series ended, I was devastated. The Boy Who Lived was a huge part of my adolescence, and moving forward without those books was harder than I’d expected it to be. But all kids grow up, and I thought letting go of childish pursuits was just part of the process. Rainbow Rowell’s newest novel showed me another way. “Carry On: The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow” is not a book I would’ve picked up on my own, but after three people recommended it to me, I caved. Now I wish I’d done it sooner! Full of banter between excellent characters, told from multiple points of view, with parallels to my favorite series…it was enough to pull me in, and keep me hooked until the last page. I shut the book after I’d finished, and was surprised to find I had tears in my eyes. “Carry On” managed to give me back some of the magic I’d lost, even though I hadn’t really admitted I missed it. If you’re a fan of audiobooks, I’ve heard this one’s fantastic.
