I describe Michael Glauser, Ph. D. as “crackerjack fantastic.” Professor, consultant, business strategist and all-around leader, Mr Glauser offers a unique look at what it takes to create a thriving business. To develop this book, he rode 4,005 miles in 45 days, spent 246 hours on a bike seat, climbed 165,748 vertical feet, and interviewed more than 100 entrepreneurs in 100 cities. Why? To identify the hidden similarities. While all of their stories, products, services, and communities were different, what thread tied all of these success stories together? What were the collective keys to success they all shared?

In this book, Glauser distills his interviews and research down to nine keys: Building a purpose-driven business; Meeting important community needs; Developing a supporting cast; Working with a zealous tenacity; Giving mind-boggling customer service; Diversifying revenue streams; Giving back to the broader community; and ultimately, creating the lifestyle of your dreams.

This book is not a point-for-point how to guide, though. Let me warn you of that up front. However, I think something even more valuable can be learned because of that. These are real stories and real people. I think each reader will be able to take-away something slightly different. “Main Street Entrepreneur” is just as important as other books on marketing or small business . . . but maybe even more so. This book is not excessively academic in its jargon or overly economic in its focus. The tremendous value comes from learning about the lives of others – people just like you who had a dream and acted on it. It is an inspiring must-read and will teach you that there’s more to success than just money. In fact, if you get into business for a variety of positive reasons other than money, the reward of the green stuff will soon follow.
