The Barretts are a normal suburban family. When their 14 year-old daughter, Marjorie, begins to display signs of schizophrenia and doctors are unable to stop her descent into madness, they turn to a Catholic Priest for help. Believing the girl to be a victim of demonic possession, he suggests an exorcism. With mounting medical bills and Marjorie’s father out of work the family reluctantly agrees to let the family and the exorcism be filmed for a reality television program. The Possession becomes a hit, and when the household explodes in tragedy, becomes the stuff of urban legend. Fifteen years later, during an interview with a writer, Marjorie’s younger sister Merry recalls the painful events from her childhood. She reveals a tale of horror which raises questions about memory and reality, science and religion, and the very nature of evil.
