In this graphic novel for younger readers, a book-reading, solitude-seeking guinea pig in a pet shop becomes a reluctant private eye when the "G" falls off the word "PIG" on his homemade nameplate.  Kids will love the zaniness of this detective story set in a pet shop owned by the befuddled Mr. Venezi, who can't even get the names of the animals straight.  Readers will be attracted by the well-executed, full-color cartoon illustrations and be drawn into a good ol' mystery complete with red herrings, false suspects, a disguised decoy and a clever solution.  A bonus section at the end contains some fun facts pertaining to the animals in the shop.

This book introduces some endearing shaggy sleuths that kids will look forward to joining up with again in Pet Shop Private Eye #2.
