As a young girl born into a noble family in the land of Trebond, Alanna longs for adventures she cannot have.  When Alanna's father sends her to a convent, she decides to change her own fate. She disguises herself as a boy named Alan and travels to the castle to begin training to become a knight. Throughout her training, Alanna finds herself tested both physically and mentally.  Alanna's disguise fools everyone but for how long? As her friendship with the king's son Prince Jonathan grows, Alanna struggles with her deception.  She also finds herself drawn to a young man in the town who learns her secret.  Will Alanna's secret be revealed to all? Can she be accepted as both a female and a knight?  Find out in Alanna: The First Adventure, the first book in Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness series.
