To truly appreciate the talent of these musicians you must watch the accompanying DVD before popping the CD into your player. Not normally a channel surfer, I stumbled on their Guitar Center Session broadcast on DirecTV and sat mesmerized for an hour. All the sounds of a classic rock band-bass, drum, slide--coming from two acoustic guitars. Gabriela strums and thumps rhythmically to produce beat and tempo while Rodrigo plays lead over top. Originally in a metal band, the songs on 11:11 pay tribute to eleven artists who have influenced their work, including Al Di Meola and Dimebag Darrell. Glimpses of Pink Floyd melody combine with the drive of Metallica and jazz stylings of Santana on my favorite tracks, Logos, Santo Domingo and the last track 11:11. No vocals allow you to hear the layers of sound built and intertwined into seemingly simple, beautiful compositions. Having composed and performed for the recent "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" soundtrack, this duo is hard to categorize, but should be listened to for their talent alone.

Great review! I really enjoyed this CD as well. As Nikki said, they are hard to categorize, but in a refreshingly pleasant way. The track "Triveni" is featured on the library's April playlist.
