Sarah Dessen's newest release, Along for the Ride, is a great summer read and may become a new favorite of Dessen fans.  After graduating from a strenuously academic private school, Auden comes to the realization that she has pursued her goal of excelling academically so thoroughly that she's missed out on many typical "growing up" activities. She agrees to spend the summer with her father and his new family at their home in a small coastal town, not expecting much from the trip.  While there, she learns that first assumptions aren't always correct and life and people don't have to be one way or the other. Maybe Auden can have the best of both worlds if she's willing to try.

I just finished this - what a great book. The cover looks rather fluffy, but the book has some serious substance and tackles a lot of complex issues with really good writing. I'll be reading more of Dessen's books, for sure!
