My Special Book
Grow Up Great: PNC Awards Cecil County Public Library Grant for "My Special Book" Initiative
PNC recently awarded the Cecil County Public Library a grant to serve neighborhoods in Cecil County by supplying area children with free, classic books to keep as their own in an initiative called "My Special Book."
Outreach Services Library Associate Arne Anderson makes regular bookmobile stops in neighborhoods throughout the county where children are less likely to visit a branch library. The "My Special Book" grant allows the library to go one step further towards getting books into homes where they can do the most good. Click here for the full story.
Quotes from our staff about the My Special Book program:
"The children were very interested in the new books and said 'Thank you!' It was a good feeling to tell the children they could keep the books forever and ever."
"Congratulations to PNC and CCPL for a forward-thinking program! There is nothing like having your very own book to hug."
"It was a simple way to promote a positive relationship between the community and the library."
"The children were very excited to see the Bookmobile, and so were the adults. The children that picked out books were very excited to get a book of their own, and the parents seemed just as thrilled."
"The children loved receiving their new books, and the events were enjoyed by all."
"This was an incredibly satisfying campaign and one of value to the kids and their communities. I believe it created an experience with books that these kids simply wouldn't get if we didn't go into their neighborhoods... It doesn't take long for them to realize that we are there because we genuinely care for them. When they smile and open up, it's awesome."
Many thanks to the CCPL and PNC staff, volunteers, parents, and kids who made this program very special indeed!
